“Youth for Policy has not only enriched my knowledge and skills but has also empowered me to lead social change. Its youth-led approach inspires me to be a changemaker, transcending the role of a mere observer.”
My journey with Youth for Policy (YfP) commenced at the impactful Policy Camp 2018 in Gaibandha. At that time, I served as the president of Volunteer for Bangladesh within the Jaago Foundation’s Rajshahi division. My connection with Shopnopuron, a school for dropout students, fueled my passion for driving change within marginalized and underprivileged communities. Growing up in rural Bogura exposed me to the struggles of grassroots people, motivating me to advocate for their rights actively.
The dynamic approach of YfP resonated deeply with me, prompting me to join the transformative Policy Camp in 2018. The camp’s inclusivity training broadened my perspective and prompted me to welcome the LGBTQ+ community into my volunteer activities. This experience was pivotal in challenging and expanding my mindset.
While studying journalism in university, my passion for voicing unheard perspectives and catalyzing policy shifts grew stronger. I envisioned and established Shopno Puron, a school catering to slum children, intending to address education disparities and uplift marginalized communities nationally.
The practical and unique sessions at the YfP Policy Camp significantly augmented my career and personal skills. The “Mind-Mapping” session, for instance, empowered me to effectively prioritize various social issues, a skill I harnessed while expanding Shopnopuron to multiple branches across the Bogura district.
Participating in a YfP and IID collaboration roundtable on youth employability allowed me to share insights from rural Bogura. My attendance at the Policy Conclave on Social Justice in Cox’s Bazar further broadened my horizons, aligning me with select youth leaders.
I initiated change within the pre-migration process for labor migrants in Bogura. Identifying inefficiencies, I presented evidence-based suggestions to the Department of Immigration and Passports, influencing policy reform. Additionally, an awareness campaign I organized with fellow youth members aimed at promoting youth inclusion in democracy, aligning with the upcoming 2024 elections.
Within the YfP Volunteer Network, I played a pivotal role in mediating a conflict between aboriginal community members and Bengalis over land ownership issues. Collaborating with local administration, we resolved disputes through dialogues, cementing my ties with local authorities and Members of Parliament. This collaboration fueled the expansion of my school projects and social campaigns, advocating against child labor and promoting inclusivity in education.
Overall, my journey with YfP has been a continuous learning experience, offering opportunities for skill development and the empowerment to drive transformative societal change.
