My journey with Youth for Policy and IID began with my participation in Policy Camp 2018 in Jashore. Before this experience, I was unfamiliar with the intricacies of policy formation and the potential for youth to influence these processes. The intensive five-day workshop transformed my understanding, equipping me with skills to gather field evidence and effectively convey findings to policymakers.
Following the training, I was selected for a four-month Fellowship by Youth for Policy. This opportunity took me to the Technical Training Center in Rajshahi, where I gained invaluable firsthand insights into the challenges faced by migrants throughout the migration process. The fellowship empowered me to raise awareness among migrants, comprehend their opinions on policy effectiveness, and identify areas for improvement.
Participating in a round table organized by IID and Prothom Alo on the 4th Industrial Revolution further enriched my perspective. I delved into discussions about essential future work skills and absorbed policymakers’ insights on youth prospects.
The Gender and Social Inclusion training, a collaborative effort by IID and fellow volunteers, was transformative. This session shattered my preconceived notions about inclusivity. I grasped that individuals from diverse backgrounds, including women and those from socially vulnerable groups, possess the capabilities to contribute significantly to society. This training was pivotal in dispelling my gender-related stereotypes.
Youth for Policy also facilitated connections with change-makers locally and internationally. At the Frugal Innovation Forum 2019, where I represented the network alongside two other volunteers, I was exposed to avenues beyond my imagination. The forum’s focus on scaling opportunities for youth opened doors for my future endeavors.
Participating in the ‘Youth Policy Conclave: Future of Work’ proved pivotal. Collaborating with 25 young leaders from 18 districts, we envisioned Bangladesh in 2041 and articulated common goals. We consolidated our aspirations into a Youth Manifesto, a document that resonated with policymakers and conveyed our collective vision for the nation’s progress.
I underwent Training of Trainers for PolicyCampX, a hybrid policy advocacy training slated for 23 districts in Bangladesh. This role will enable me to magnify the impact of our learning and engage grassroots youth in shaping our nation’s policies.
Five years into this journey, I’ve cultivated friendships across the nation. Beyond the tangible achievements, the experiences and opportunities instilled in me a belief that my youth-driven perspectives hold significance in shaping the country’s policy decisions. This platform has kindled a lasting trust in my voice and its potential impact on policy discourse.
