My journey with Youth for Policy began during Policy Camp 2018, a pivotal experience that launched me into the realm of policy advocacy as a young individual. The camp’s training transformed my mindset, instilling mindfulness, and a fresh perspective in my approach to various challenges.
Alongside fellow participants, I engaged in gender sensitization training. In Bangladesh, gender-equal participation remains a formidable issue. However, Youth for Policy displayed a commitment to fostering inclusivity throughout our activities, fostering a sense of belonging for me and other young women. This approach catalyzed change even among male volunteers, furthering the cause of gender equality.
Since Policy Camp, I’ve actively participated in diverse policy dialogues, enabling me to both expand my understanding of policy advocacy and raise my voice in these critical discussions. This empowerment to express my concerns and insights to key decision-makers is immensely gratifying. The platform I now possess was once unimaginable, as I never thought I’d have the chance to contribute to policy advocacy on this scale.
A notable instance was my involvement in the ‘Youth Employment and the 4th Industrial Revolution’ roundtable at Prothom Alo. Here, I shed light on areas where our country lags in adapting to forthcoming technological shifts. At the Youth Policy Conclave, collaborating with 24 volunteers, I voiced concerns about our nation’s future work landscape and proposed solutions. Importantly, our voices resonated with government representatives and stakeholders, fostering tangible impact.
Post receiving the Fellowship, I ventured into the field, conducting surveys and visiting local training centers. These experiences enriched my understanding of real-world issues, amplifying my effectiveness in policy advocacy.
An upcoming highlight is hosting a PolicyCampX in my district. This endeavor is deeply significant, signifying a step towards giving back to my community. Equipped with the knowledge I’ve acquired, I aim to ignite awareness about policy engagement among youth, creating a ripple effect of empowerment.
Looking ahead, my optimism knows no bounds. The aspiration of a career in the development sector fuels my drive. My journey with Youth for Policy has not only emboldened me but also imparted a profound belief in the potential of youth-driven policy change.
